Sadly, our site, portdouglasaustralia.com.au was closed because of a tech mishap in early December 2025. Luckily, my amazing hosts had full backups, and we were able to move this site to a new domain at portdouglasau.com within 24 hours.
That’s the website you’re on right now, our travel blog is intact.

Everything is working just fine, and the new site will keep sailing along.
You may have had an email full of dead links on the day it happened, sorry about that, everything is working fine again now.
Latest from Port Douglas Australia
There is a lot of news from Port to keep abreast of. Here are a few things I’ve heard on the grapevine lately, I’m yet to verify them. What I do know for sure is that the new kids’ splash park is open!
One of the family-owned reef operations has been sold to a big company. This company has also bought the business at Mossman Gorge.
Obviously, sales like this affect service, staff, and standards, as we have seen when other family businesses were bought by corporations. We’ll be checking everything out and reporting back. Don’t worry, it’s not our favourite, Wavelength.
Various restaurants have opened and closed; 4 Mile chip shop will be closing at the end of the year. There are always a lot of things happening with our local restaurants and bars.
We have the new darts bar, Cosmos, and Barbados semi-closed, other than for functions. But things are always changing there!
There are various new attractions around Cairns and the Tablelands; new things are always appearing, like the new Egyptian museum experience in Cairns, which we have already visited to review.
The wet season is coming, and that always brings reduced opening hours and closures. We’ll let you know if we have tropical cyclones and storms, and what their effects are.
Hopefully, we won’t.
So stay subscribed, and we’ll do our best to keep you up to date.
Thanks for being here, and being interested in this part of the world.
